Francesca Scott

Our newest member of our Ambassador Team is certainly hitting the ground running with her cycling career – she will be attacking the Transcontinental Race this year as a bursary-supported rider, taking on one of the toughest and most challenging bike rides on the calendar. Fran is also local to our Kinesis base, living in Brighton she enjoys piling on the miles around the Sussex countryside while also travelling further afield for cycling adventures. Here's Fran in her own words.

FREEDOM AND INSPIRATION

Some of my earliest memories involve cycling – mucking around on a bike on the front drive at home with my sisters, standing on the saddle and riding with no hands. Things only got more serious with cycling for me with the advent of lockdown. I got a decent bike to start commuting to work, cycling along the south coast from Brighton to Worthing Hospital and back again every day. And then I started filling my spare time with cycling as there wasn’t a whole lot else to do! I loved the sense of freedom cycling gave me, and it’s a great way to explore an area. Friends at work introduced me to cycle touring, and what started off as a few week-long jaunts in France inspired a much bigger adventure.

NEXT STOP – TCR 10

I quit my job in August 2023 and set off solo on a six-month epic trip, starting in Vancouver and finishing in Panama City. This was an incredible experience, and I met so many interesting and inspirational other cyclists along the way. It was during this trip, that I decided to apply for TCR number 10, and secured a bursary place for this year’s race. Nothing like diving right into the deep end of self-supported ultra-endurance cycle racing, having not done anything like this before! But I love a challenge and seeing how far I can go, and who knows, hopefully this is the start of many more cycling challenges to come!
