Joshua Moodie

Joshua is 22 and based in Croyde, North Devon. He graduated from the University of Exeter (Penryn) with a 2:1 in Ecology and Conservation Biology, and to finance his incredible Long Ride East trip managed a pizza business and campsite next to the beach in Croyde. Away from the bike he surfs, fishes, whittles spoons and takes street photography.
Joshua aims to be the first person to cycle from Land’s End (UK) to the Pacific coast of Russia, unsupported, in a single year. He grew up in a family of charity founders and foster carers, and that background is the reason the ride is built around other people’s stories as much as his own miles.

THE LONG ROAD EAST

He started his journey on the 14th September 2026 – in a nutshell, Joshua is attempting to become the first person to cycle from Land’s End to the eastern Pacific coast of Russia, entirely self-supported. The route runs through Europe, Turkey, Central Asia and Mongolia, over Alpine passes, Balkan ranges and Central Asian desert, reaching 4,665m in Tajikistan.
There is no vehicle, crew or backup. Everything he needs is on the bike, and it has to work in every condition the route throws at it – and the route has some impressive stats. Distance 25,000 km, via 24 countries, over the course of 12 months.
Joshua’s previous bike packing trips:
2024: Land’s End to John O’Groats, solo and unsupported, in 18 days. He wild camped throughout, in April, when the weather and short daylight make it hardest.
2017: Medellín to Bogotá at the age of 13, raising £2,000 for Compassion International and the Kenwood Trust.

THE DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

Alongside the riding, Joshua is filming a long-form documentary about small, grassroots NGOs working in the communities he passes through, focusing on: poverty alleviation, refugee and asylum seeker support, climate action, and conservation. The aim is to show local, community-led work that mainstream media tends to miss, highlight the hope for the future. The ride also raises funds for Earth Action North Devon, TEN (Transformational Enterprise Network), the zoological society of luujin, and the Pickwell Foundation.
